Mobile Wireless Internet Connection

22 03 2008

It has finally happened. I got a mobile wireless internet connection though my mobile service AT&T.

I got the USBConnnect 881. What that means I am not sure, but what it does for me is that it allows me to get online anywhere there is mobile cell phone service.

For the last year I have been jumping on whatever wireless connection I could. This has been a reasonable solution for me since I live in San Francisco and above a cafe that provides free wireless connection. Thank you very much Cafe Royale! (If you are in SF go here for a great taste of the city)

But the strategy of hopping on free wireless is not always consistent. So I opted to get the mobile connection. It cost $60/mo. Since I do not have a ground line this is a deal. I have consistent, if not slow at times, connection.

Something to think about if you want to be mobile and free from your home connection.

So tonight I am hanging out listening to The Police – Ghost in the Machine on my1970’s record player, surfing the net and posting this blog through my USBConnect 881!

Have fun – Be Free.

Hi Bill:

Glad to see someone else has been going thru the Air Card dilemia

I also have been trying out Sprint and Verizon Wireless Cards and the USB card from spring (that one needs a battery) I finally settled on Verizon flat card not the USB. Did not know that AT&T had one also. They all are $60 a month, but Verizon and Sprint does have one for $39, but it is not unlimited usage. I went with that one as I also get a United Airines Discount on it. I would think the cost of these cards will be coming down soon. I also need a Dedicated line for my interent connection because of my Video business. The Video does not work the best with wireless, so I had to have Astound installed in my condo for my main Internet Connection.

I use the Sprint s620 it’s awesome at airports and the like, it even worked in Canada, but then I came home to a $400 bill, so check first!
